Kitchen Renovation: The Value of Professional Drafting

DEMOLITION WORK:

The demolition work is very important phase because if the item is not marked to be removed, the contractor will ask for additional service which will increase the construction cost that could be avoided if well documented. Usually demolition work is expressed in demolition plan and demolition key notes.

The demolition plan shows the following:

  • Items which will remain such as walls, doors, windows, casework, plumbing fixtures, equipment, base board and electrical, switches & phone jacks outlets shall be shown in solid lines and casework, plumbing fixtures and equipment shall be shaded in grey to stand out.

  • Items which will be demolished such as walls, doors, windows, casework, plumbing fixtures, equipment, base board and electrical, switches & phone jacks outlets shall be shown in dashed lines.

  • Demolition key note is another important item on the drawings. key note represent the documentation of the demolition work.

  • The design consultant shall ask to contractor to submit description of the demolition work for review. In this description the contractor will explain what work he will do in detail and the consultant shall ask him to add any additional work that is not clear.
